Oakhurst: 06/14/07

Oakhurst - Thursday, June 14, 2007, 5:30 pm Oakhurst is a Denver-based international act with deep Appalachian roots and highly original songs that fuse traditional bluegrass with indie-rock and a citybilly attitude. The band's sound is more rustic and rocking, and less jazzy and jammed, than the typical hybrid bluegrass found in the Rocky Mountain region. The group is also well known for its Guerrilla Grass acoustic assaults.

Karl Denson Trio; 6/15/07

Double Parked Karl Denson Trio - Friday, June 15, 2007, 8:00 PM Featuring Anthony Smith (Global Funk and Giant People) on keys and Brett Sanders (older brother of KDTU drummer John Staten) on drums; KD3 is a bold statement about jazz, past, present and future. Staying true to Karl's vision of jazz as dance music, he manages to find the funky side of things in some very unexpected places. "It's something I've been anxious to do for the last couple of years" says Denson. "I felt the need for a musical challenge and to kind of clear my head in the process of finishing the Tiny Universe record. Playing jazz is always a wake up call, but even more so in a small group setting. You have to be a lot more steady as a player and as an artist. There is also a lot of music I've written that I really want the chance to perform that's not really suited for KDTU." KD3 will satisfy the needs of the jazz aficionados and funksters alike while challenging both to listen, dance and evolve simultaneously.
